Non-Pranks

First of all: why is late in the calendar year "the holiday season"? I know that we've got Halloween and Thanksgiving and Christmas and New Year's... we can even throw in Boxing Day for the Canucks.

But it sure seems like there are holidays every week or two lately.

Valentine's Day.  Presidents' Day. Mardi Gras. St. Patrick's Day. Then this month? Easter. Earth Day. Arbor Day. Administrative Professional's Day.

And, of course, April Fool's Day. More on that in a moment.

Looking at a calendar of the holidays this year in the US, it looks like we have pretty much made all year "the holiday season"... except August, which is when I suppose most people are outside enjoying the weather (unless one is indoors, blogging about the people who go outside to enjoy the weather).

I think, for the sake of efficiency, we should drop the "holiday season" phrase entirely and just assume it's the holiday season. We can call August "non-holiday season", if that would help.

So... it's April 1. April Fool's Day. The day when people play pranks on their friends. The day when people keep their defenses up and limber up their eye-rolling muscles for lame attempts at "getting them".

Oh, sure, there's the occasional effective prank (e.g., Flowers convincing his mother that his dog was impregnated by a black lab when she dogsat her), but this holiday generally leaves something to be desired.

Today, though, I was marvelously confused by whether I was getting or getting got. TM2000 and I had a txt exchange along these lines:
TM2000: How was your night last night?
Me: It was pretty good. We hit up Hula Hula and even though there were NO girls there, it was fun. No girls.
TM2000: You almost got me with the "No girls at Hula Hula" prank.
Did he think that I was trying to get him? I don't think so, but that means he kinda got me by making me think that he thought I was trying to get him.

I was in the liquor store yesterday and was handed my merchandise in a Season's Greetings bag.
